Pontido

District: Braga | County: Fafe | Parish: Pedraído

Situated on the banks of the Vizela River, Pontido is a starting point for a unique experience in the rural world. Take a plunge into this village where the almost wild nature invites you to the purest of relaxation! Part of Pedraído, in Fafe, the village was abandoned for three decades and has now been reborn, ready to take in whoever wants to discover more about this peaceful refuge with so much to discover!

The village has a unique setting of dense vegetation, a landscape of oak, hanging and cultivated vines, and a large lagoon – the Queimadela dam. Be sure to take the “Green Boundary” Trail, one of the signposted hiking routes which goes through the village and around the Queimadela Dam. There is also the Maroiço Route, the Villages on the Banks of the River Vizela Route or the Pick up Pebbles Trail, which all go over the Medieval Roman Bridge, one of the points of interest in the area. There are also places suitable for picnics and for swimming in the river, set in the midst of nature itself. The relaxing ambient sound is only disturbed when the Rally WRC Fafe Rally Sprint and the Rally Serras de Fafe pass by at full speed.

If you want to find out more about the environment around you, then you must pay a visit to the old porch and granary, now an Environmental Interpretation Centre. To see the old dynamics of the rural village, go to the mill and threshing floor, now restored. These are testimonies to the bread cycle, which starts with threshing to the music of a concertina! The tradition was recovered and you can watch the entire journey of the cereal on your table! Fafe style roast veal, kid, pork and papas de sarrabulho, in addition to diverse traditional Minho confectionery, are typical delicacies that will surely delight whoever goes to the pleasant Pontido restaurant. There is no shortage of accommodation options if you want to stay in this peaceful location for a few days: rural tourism options vary between Burra House, Silvino House, Forninho House, Pontido House or Quinta House, all traditional style dwellings, and there is also the Queimadela Camping Park.
